Generating a self-signed SSL certificate

This article explains nicely how to make a self-signed SSL certificate, for Apache for instance:

openssl genrsa -des3 -out server.key 2048
openssl req -new -key server.key -out server.csr
cp server.key server.key.org
openssl rsa -in server.key.org -out server.key # remove passphrase from key
openssl x509 -req -days 3650 -in server.csr -signkey server.key -out server.crt

However, later I found this to generate a CSR and key:

openssl req -nodes -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout bla.key -out bla.csr
